Gelcoat Repair & Restoration

Bottom Paint

Bottom paint (antifouling paint) prevents barnacles, algae, and other marine growth from attaching to your hull. Without it, fouling builds up quickly in Florida waters, reducing fuel efficiency and increasing drag. Proper bottom paint application extends hull life and protects your investment.

We prepare the hull correctly before application. That means sanding, cleaning, and priming as needed to ensure adhesion. We work with both ablative and hard antifouling paints and will recommend the right product for how you use your boat.

Fiberglass Repair Questions

What kinds of fiberglass damage can you repair?
We repair hull cracks, stress fractures, impact damage, delamination, osmotic blistering, transom rot, and structural damage to stringers and floors. Most jobs can be handled at our Holiday shop, and many can also be done on-site via mobile service without hauling the boat.
Can you match the original gelcoat color?
Yes. We custom-mix gelcoat to match your boat's existing color. On older boats the original color may have faded, so we work to get as close as possible and blend the repair area. We inspect the repair in natural light to confirm the match before finishing.
What is the difference between gelcoat and paint?
Gelcoat is the factory outer skin of a fiberglass boat. It is a thick, pigmented resin applied during manufacturing. Paint is applied on top of the surface. Most boat hulls above the waterline are gelcoat, not painted. We can repair and restore the gelcoat directly rather than painting over it.
How long does bottom paint last?
Antifouling bottom paint typically lasts one to three seasons depending on how often the boat is in the water, the type of paint used, and local water conditions. Boats kept in saltwater year-round generally need repainting more frequently than those stored on a lift or trailer.
What is the difference between ablative and hard bottom paint?
Ablative (self-polishing) bottom paint wears away slowly as the boat moves through the water, releasing biocide continuously. It works well for boats used regularly. Hard bottom paint is more durable for high-speed boats or boats with light use. We will recommend the right type for how you use your boat.
Do you work on saltwater boats?
Yes. Most of our clients keep their boats in saltwater. We understand the specific repair and protection needs of saltwater vessels, including saltwater-appropriate gelcoat and antifouling bottom paint.

Can a transom be repaired without replacing the whole thing?
